Speaker: Dr. Kai Li
Paul M. and Marcia R. Wythes Professor
Department of Computer Science

Abstract: Researchers and entrepreneurs love the word “disruptive” because disrupting current knowledge or products help to accelerate knowledge discoveries and move technologies into a new era. What are disruptive innovations? How do they happen? To answer such questions, in this talk, Dr. Li will share his experience of co-founding Data Domain, Inc., which built deduplication storage ecosystems to replace tape library infrastructure in data centers.
Bio: Kai Li is the Paul M. and Marcia R. Wythes Professor at Princeton University, where he has worked as a faculty member in the Computer Science Department since 1986. Before joining Princeton, he received his doctorate from Yale University. His research expertise is in building parallel and distributed systems, deduplication storage systems, and performing data analysis and search for large datasets. He co-founded Data Domain, Inc. in 2001, serving as the initial CEO, CTO and Chief Scientist. He is a Fellow of both the ACM and IEEE. He is also a Member of the National Academy of Engineering.
